Independent Living

SharingIndependent Living Communities offer seniors a secure and comfortable community environment, structured activities, services and amenities, to help seniors maintain independence. Most residents live independantly but some Retirement Communities have in-house assisted care companies, or residents can bring in outside care givers.

Typically, Retirement Facilities offer studio, one and two-bedroom apartments which include utilities. Some have full kitchens plus a dining room, and some offer kitchenettes, but provide daily meals as part of their "package". Often, housekeeping and linen service is included as part of their service offerings as well as transportation to appointments, shopping, banking, etc.

Residents typically have access to a library, a computer center, a TV/entertainment room, fitness center, laundry, etc. Retirement Facilities are staffed 24 hours a day and are secure. Many feature secure parking and amenities such as a beauty salon, community garden, and gift/convenience shop. Often, pets are allowed.

Retirement Communities are not appropriate for seniors needing ongoing medical or hygiene support or who are not able to do most things for themselves. Please look at our Assisted Living, Residential Board and Care Home, and Home Care facility information to learn more about facilities offering this kind of support.

Resident's living in "active" retirement are leading busy, rewarding and
productive lives from their active retirement communities.
While many are involved in careers, others are improving their physical health with diet and exercise and some are learning new skills.
