Nursing Homes - Skilled Care
Nursing homes, convalescent homes, skilled nursing facilities, care homes, rest homes, or intermediate care homes, provide a type of residential care. It is a place of residence for people who require continual nursing care and have difficulty coping with the required activities of daily living. Nursing aides and skilled nurses are available 24 hours a day. Residents in a skilled nursing facility may also receive physical, occupational, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness.
A nursing home is a place for people who do not need to be in a hospital, but cannot be cared for at home. There may be a nurse"s station on each floor. While other nursing homes try to be more like a residential home. They try to have a neighborhood feel to them.
Skilled Nursing Homes provide the highest level of care. Registered nurses are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide any nursing care that might be needed in addition to the care the regular caregivers provide.
Unless a person qualifies for state paid Medicaid, it can be quite expensive to stay in a rehabilitation facility or skilled nursing facility for an extended period of time compared to living in an assisted living facility.
